Wow, imagine if I made that kind of money. Just think of the things that I could buy... a pack of gum, maybe a marble, a couple of staples, a paperclip, a pencil...
A single-digit salary earner is a person whose salary is less than 10 units of the currency in which he would customarily be compensated with salary, but who is compensated by the employer via other means such as shares. This is done to either avoid taxation, or more commonly, as a symbol that single-digit salary earner has no personal gain from his work other than the gain he or she shares with shareholders.

Lol don't worry Chris, working full time at Lakeland, you will be close to the $1 salary...we'll not literally but sometimes it will feel that way. With the wiki list you have to wonder if the people are trying to be admirable and loyal to their stockholders or just greedy and avoiding high salary taxes.
Mostly a publicity stunt, or at least that's what I think. Also, might help tax evasion (a.k.a. ""‘tax avoision""), but you still pay capital gains tax on stock earnings, so it's not much of a savings.
OT: but yay, my proxy thingie works, except the stupid "magic_quotes_gpc" thing screwed my post up... must fix that.
